Can I use my phone as an Internet hotspot?

To hotspot, or not to hotspot. That is the question, isn’t it? Sure, being able to tether any device to your phone and mooch off of its sweet, sweet mobile data is an appealing proposition… but what does it do to your phone bill?

Enter Elliot Noss, CEO of Ting. He confirms that indeed, Ting customers can use their phones as mobile Internet hotspots. He also adds that unlike other providers, Ting won’t charge extra for said feature. “Data is data,” as he puts it.

But with all that good news comes a caveat. While tethering is a handy feature, different devices have access to different versions of the Internet. Meaning, your laptop will use up more mobile data accessing the feature-rich desktop web versus the data your phone uses to access a mobile homepage.

Either way, feel confident dear Ting customer, in your ability to access the web wherever you see fit to go. Just remember, that with great power comes greater data consumption.
