Meet Ting customer Matthew from ThreeThriftyGuys

Matthew from ThreeThriftyGuys

We’re always on the hunt for great stories about Ting, so when we heard Matthew from ThreeThriftyGuys wanted to talk, we were pretty excited to hear what he had to say.

Ting is the mobile service that will actually help you save, which is why savvy budgeters like Matthew love the control we give them over their bill.

How long have you been with Ting? What makes you stay?

I’ve been with Ting for seven years and there’s no seven-year itch for me. I’m a planner and paying my Ting bill is like clockwork. The rates haven’t gone up in seven years.

I just keep paying my monthly bill and using the phone I want. When I’m ready for a new one, I’ll buy one new or used at the price I want to pay, not when someone tells me I have to.

Why did you make the switch to Ting? How did you find the process of switching?

Before Ting, I was frustrated with the high rates I was paying. In my situation, I was paying for things I wasn’t using, like data. Now that I’m with Ting, I pay for what I use and that’s it.

The process of switching was much easier than I thought. I didn’t have to go anywhere or into a store, I didn’t have to change my number and the devices I wanted to bring were all compatible with Ting (most are).

Why does Ting work for your family?

Ting works for my family because we want phone service that’s functional, simple and cheap. Ting works just as well as any large provider plan did and I never have to go into a location to change plans or get a new phone. With Ting, you just order a SIM and activate online. I have a data alert set for each month, so I’m aware of reaching my ideal mark.

Taxes and fees included, we typically pay $45 per month for two lines. The highest bill we’ve paid in the last year was $54.

What would you say to someone switching from the big guy to the little guy?

Learn about how Ting works and do a cost/benefit analysis. It most definitely saves a lot of people a lot of money and a lot of hassle.

What has your experience been with Ting’s customer support?

I think Ting has set up their processes so they are fairly easy to follow. The three times I’ve had to contact (in seven years remember), they have been efficient and knowledgeable and helped me figure things out.

How do you describe Ting to your family/friends? What’s your Ting elevator pitch?

I tell my friends Ting is a phone service that gives you everything you need and eliminates the hassle.

If you want to keep your phone, your phone number and phone habits but want to pay less, you have to try Ting. The least you can do is get a copy of your phone bill, see what your minutes, messages and data numbers are and plug them into the bill estimator on ting.com/rates

Unless you really like bills that you can’t understand or you get some weird enjoyment out of standing in line for a service rep at the big guys, I recommend checking out Ting.

What do you use the Ting hotspot for?

I tried out the Ting hotspot for web browsing and my streaming service. Because the price is so low, I’d definitely recommend a Ting hotspot as a primary source of economical Wi-Fi in a small living area. Because the installation is so easy, I’d recommend the Ting hotspot for a person who is on the move and wants a reliable, but limited, WiFi capability.
