Cheap cell phone plans: the best plans for 2021

A man looks at his phone. He's smiling. Must be the cheap cell phone plan.

You don’t have to sacrifice quality for affordability with cheap cell phone plans

“Cheap” is a funny word. It can provoke a couple of different reactions when we hear it. For example, when you hear the phrase “cheap cell phone plans,” the following two things probably come to mind:

1) The plans in question aren’t expensive.

2) The plans in question are inferior to more expensive plans.

We’re often taught to believe that if one thing is cheaper than another, chances are the cheaper one is of a lower quality.

Well, we wanted to remind you that that isn’t always the case. In fact, sometimes it’s quite the opposite.

You’ve probably guessed from the title of this post that we’re not just here to talk about semantics. We’re going to talk about Ting Mobile’s cheap cell phone plans. Cheap in all the right ways, that is.

Ting Mobile’s cheap cell phone plans

In case you’re not familiar with our cheap cell phone plans, we’ll give you the rundown:

Our Flex plan

Now, we know we’re not supposed to have favorites, but we’ve got to say that Flex is a particularly great offering. Starting at just $10/month, Flex provides you with unlimited talk and text and a plan that flexes with your lifestyle, since you can add data as you need at just $5 per GB.

With Flex, you can also share your data across multiple lines, making it the perfect family plan

It’s never been easier to manage your data usage, and Wi-Fi is only getting more readily available. So why not give a low data plan a whirl and save some money?

One thing is for sure: If you’re looking for really cheap cell phone plans, Flex is the place to start.

Our Set 5 and Set 12 plans

Set 5 and Set 12 are fantastic plans for anyone out there who knows that they’re going to need at least a moderate amount of data.

Both of these plans come with unlimited talk and text, and 5 GB and 12 GB of data respectively. With these plans, there’s also hotspotting to take into account. With Set 5, all 5 GB of data can be used as a hotspot. With Set 12, you can use up to 8 GB of the 12 GB in hotspot mode.

So if cheap cell phone plans are what you’re after, but you know you’re gonna need a chunk of data to get you through the month, we’d recommend one of these options.

You can pick up a Set 5 plan for just $25/month or Set 12 for only $35/month.

Our Unlimited plans

For the heavy data users out there, we have our Unlimited and Ollo™ Unlimited Pro plans.

Now, when it comes to cheap cell phone plans, an Unlimited plan is never going to have the smallest price tag. That said, our Unlimited plans are about as affordable as it gets.

Our Unlimited plan comes with unlimited talk and text, 22 GB of fast data, of which 12 GB can be used in hotspot mode. All this will cost you just $45/month.

If you’re looking for a little extra fast data, you should check out our Ollo Unlimited Pro plan. For just $55/month, you’ll get your hands on unlimited talk and text, 35 GB of fast data, 18 GB of which can be used in hotspot mode. Not a bad deal, eh?

Why you shouldn’t be put off by our cheap cell phone plans

As we mentioned at the start of this article, the term “cheap” can often cause us to assume that whatever is being discussed is of an inferior quality to a comparable, more expensive version of the product or service.

In the case of Ting Mobile, and our affordable mobile plans, this is definitely not the case.

Here’s why:

Ting Mobile uses the same network infrastructure as some of the nation’s major carriers

You may have heard that Ting Mobile is an MVNO (Mobile Virtual Network Operator), but you may not be exactly sure what this term means.

Luckily for us, despite a somewhat complicated name, the idea of an MVNO is actually quite simple. In essence, an MVNO is a phone carrier that uses one or more of the major mobile networks to offer service.

MVNOs do not own any wireless network infrastructure, such as cell towers, and instead enter into agreements with major carriers whereby they obtain access to network services on a mass scale, before setting their own prices and reselling to the public.

That is how Ting Mobile is able to offer such cheap cell phone plans without sacrificing quality. We’re using the exact same technology as some of the big guys, but attaching our own price tag to the service.

Ting Mobile offers superior customer service

Something you probably don’t expect to see from something considered “cheap” is superior quality.

But then again, we’ve always liked to shake things up at Ting Mobile.

While major carriers are putting their customers through never-ending phone trees and hours stuck on hold, Ting Mobile provides top-rated customer support, administered by our helpful human support team.

That’s right. No robots, just actual people who are eager to help.

Our caring customer support team can be reached in-app, online or over the phone

(Not bad for a company that offers cheap cell phone plans.)

Ting Mobile gives you flexibility

When it comes to flexibility, few carriers even come close to Ting Mobile. We’ve already discussed our flexible data option, the Flex plan, but that’s not all.

Contracts are one of the worst things about major carriers since they lock you into a deal which, over time, may not work for you. That’s why you won’t have to sign a contract to try our cheap cell phone plans.

If you so desire, you can cancel your plan at any time.

In addition to this, we also allow people to switch between plans on a monthly basis. So if you know that in an upcoming month you’re going to need more/less data than the plan you’re currently on, just reach out to our customer support team and ask them to switch you onto a plan that better suits your needs.
