“Cheap” is a funny word. It can provoke a couple of different reactions when we hear it. For example, when you hear the phrase “cheap cell phone plans,” the following two things probably come to mind:

Our Set 5 and Set 12 plans

Set 5 and Set 12 are fantastic plans for anyone out there who knows that they’re going to need at least a moderate amount of data.

Both of these plans come with unlimited talk and text, and 5 GB and 12 GB of data respectively. With these plans, there’s also hotspotting to take into account. With Set 5, all 5 GB of data can be used as a hotspot. With Set 12, you can use up to 8 GB of the 12 GB in hotspot mode.

So if cheap cell phone plans are what you’re after, but you know you’re gonna need a chunk of data to get you through the month, we’d recommend one of these options.

Why you shouldn’t be put off by our cheap cell phone plans

As we mentioned at the start of this article, the term “cheap” can often cause us to assume that whatever is being discussed is of an inferior quality to a comparable, more expensive version of the product or service.

In the case of Ting Mobile, and our affordable mobile plans, this is definitely not the case.

You may have heard that Ting Mobile is an MVNO (Mobile Virtual Network Operator), but you may not be exactly sure what this term means.

Luckily for us, despite a somewhat complicated name, the idea of an MVNO is actually quite simple. In essence, an MVNO is a phone carrier that uses one or more of the major mobile networks to offer service.

MVNOs do not own any wireless network infrastructure, such as cell towers, and instead enter into agreements with major carriers whereby they obtain access to network services on a mass scale, before setting their own prices and reselling to the public.
